CAMDEN, Maine (AP) - A truncated version of U.S. National Toboggan Championships is getting underway.

Two-, three- and four-person teams are making runs down a ski mountain Saturday instead of the toboggan chute at the Camden Snow Bowl. There will be no racing Sunday.

Officials decided to move the venue and shortened the event because of concerns about thin ice and open patches of water on the frozen Hosmer Pond where toboggans emerge from the chute.

Competitors in the annual event are both serious, and silly. Teams have names like the “Frankensliders,” ”Sled Heads” and “Big Kahoonas.”
