CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - The treasurer of a northern New Jersey school’s parent-teachers association has been charged with stealing money from the group.

Clifton police say 38-year-old city resident Dena Silvestri faces charges of theft by deception and forgery. But they say the amount of money allegedly stolen from the Clifton School 5 Home and School Association is not yet available because the investigation is ongoing.

The charges come just weeks after authorities said they were investigating the possible theft of tens of thousands of dollars from the association.

Silvestri was released on her own recognizance after being charged on Friday. A telephone number for her could not be located Saturday.
