ELLIOTT, Iowa (AP) - Officials have declared the water in the southwest Iowa town of Elliott safe to drink.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/1Q25nvw ) that the city has lifted an advisory issued Tuesday for residents to use bottled water after an electrical failure drained the town’s water tower.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says samples taken from the refilled tank show the water is safe to drink.

While the advisory was in effect, the city furnished bottled water to residents and advised them not to drink tap water, because pressure losses can allow bacteria to enter water supply pipes.
