KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Kinder Morgan Inc. plans to spend $1 million to put a silencer on a compressor in Kingman.

The Kingman Daily Miner (https://bit.ly/1T7bYoH ) reports the “blow-down” that releases 600 pounds of pipeline pressure comes as part of delivering as much as 6 million cubic feet of natural gas in the El Paso Natural Gas Pipeline daily from Texas to New Mexico, Arizona and California.

But the pipeline pressure’s screeching noise has been known to wake residents nearby in the middle of the night.

The total budget for operating the 10,000-mile pilot across 40 compressor stations is $17 million.

Philip Baca, division director Kinder Morgan, says the $1 million expenditure approved by the Houston-based energy company’s board is about being “good neighbors.”
