AUSTIN, Ark. (AP) - Lonoke County authorities say a deputy shot and killed a man while responding to a domestic disturbance report in Austin.

Sheriff John Staley says deputies were talking to a woman about 3:30 a.m. Sunday about the disturbance when an armed man confronted them and a deputy was forced to shoot the man, who died after being taken to a hospital.

Staley says he’s asked Arkansas State Police to investigate the shooting and provided no other details.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said the man was identified as 36-year-old Phillip Luchsinger of Austin and that his body was sent to the State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.

The name of the deputy was not immediately released. Staley said the deputy is on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
