EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Court documents say a 29-year-old man accused of attacking his parents and setting their house near Snohomish on fire told a deputy he thought his parents were possessed by demons.

The Daily Herald says (https://goo.gl/BieKX2) Zachary Konicke was charged with first-degree murder and arson in Snohomish County Superior Court Friday.

His mother, 58-year-old Vicki Konicke, a breeder of Golden Retrievers, died in the attack. Her body was found inside the burned-out house, along with the remains of a dog.

Court documents show the suspect’s father, 58-year-old Mike Konicke, told deputies his son had attacked him and his wife after returning home with the mother’s car, which she had reported stolen hours earlier.

Documents show that earlier that week he had been voluntarily admitted to a King County hospital after he reportedly shaved his body hair and doused himself with gasoline. Konicke’s parents arranged for him to come home with them.
