GARY, Ind. (AP) - Family, friends and schoolmates of two teenage boys found fatally shot inside a vehicle gathered to mourn their deaths.

A Gary police officer on patrol late Friday noticed a vehicle’s driver’s side door open. The officer approached the vehicle and found the boys’ bodies inside. The Lake County coroner’s office identified the victims as 15-year-old Mark Skipper of Hammond and 16-year-old Kasreeyal Hester of Gary.

The teens played high school football together. Their bodies were found down the street from Hester’s home, where a crowd gathered late Saturday.

Hester’s mother, Nakita, told teens gathered around her “to keep an open relationship with your parents.”

Mourners took turns speaking, some saying someone had to see something Friday night and needed to inform police. Others told parents to keep their children close.
