TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Federal investigators say government money given to a northern Ohio company for work placement and parenting programs instead went to buy vehicles and cosmetic surgery.
A U.S. Justice Department spokesman says the Toledo company misspent close to $2.5 million that was supposed to be used for job training programs for the poor.
An indictment issued this past week accuses the company and four of its leaders of defrauding federal, state, and county governments by inflating their costs and falsifying records.
Messages seeking comment were left with officials from the company called Business Rehabilitation Informed Decisions Guiding Employment Strategies.
Investigators say company officials misspent funds on real estate, tattoos, vacations and jewelry.
Charges against the four include conspiracy to commit program fraud and mail fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
