PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say they have arrested a 36-year-old teacher accused of stalking a high school student.

Officer James Holmes says Michael Sporrer was arrested Saturday on suspicion of stalking and aggravated assault.

Police say Sporrer repeatedly sent a 15-year-old high school student inappropriate text messages professing his love for her. The girl’s parents discovered the text messages, which police say were sent to “follow her every move.”

Sporrer is also accused of touching the girl, not in a sexual manner, but in a way that made her feel uncomfortable and fear for her safety.

Police are not naming the victim or her school to protect her identity.
