HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Police have identified a fugitive who was fatally shot by police as 38-year-old Ronald Barawis Jr. of Kailua-Kona.

Barawis sustained multiple gunshot wounds Friday morning after police say he drove over the curb in a McDonald’s drive-thru in Hilo shortly after midnight and accelerated toward an officer. The suspect’s vehicle collided with two police vehicles.

Three officers fired their weapons the vehicle, hitting Barawis and a 28-year-old Mountain View woman in the passenger seat.

She is hospitalized in critical but stable condition and has not been arrested. Authorities have not released her name.

No other injuries were reported.

Police say weapons were found in the vehicle. Barawis had outstanding warrants and was wanted for reckless driving.

The shooting is under investigation. Witnesses are asked to contact authorities.
