DOVER, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey police officer was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a complaint.

Morris County prosecutors say the incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday in Dover, shortly after police responded to a report of multiple people sleeping in a Jeep.

As the officer approached the vehicle, 29-year-old Michael Medici allegedly drove it over the curb and onto the sidewalk, striking the officer. It came to a stop a short time later, and no other injuries were reported.

The Rockaway resident was charged with several counts, including aggravated assault and assault by auto.

The officer’s name has not been released. He remained hospitalized Sunday, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
