JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - The U.S. Commerce Department says Arkansas State will receive grant money through a program to promote innovation.

The university is one of 25 entities to receive money under the Regional Innovation Strategies program. It’s money comes from the i6 Challenge, which was established in 2010 as part of the Startup American Initiative. The funding is intended to help turn technology into jobs.

Arkansas State is receiving its money for the East Arkansas Regional Innovation System.

The i6 program includes about $8 million this time around. Additional funds are also being supplied for programs at an earlier stage of development.
