DOVER, N.J. (AP) - Officials have released the name of a northern New Jersey police officer who was hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a complaint.

Morris County prosecutors tell The Daily Record (https://dailyre.co/1QQ6BH6) Dover Officer Timothy Thiel has been upgraded to stable condition.

Prosecutors say the incident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday, shortly after police responded to a report of multiple people sleeping in a Jeep.

As Thiel approached the vehicle, authorities say 29-year-old Michael Medici drove it over the curb and onto the sidewalk, hitting the officer. It came to a stop a short time later.

The Rockaway resident faces charges including aggravated assault and assault by auto.

A woman is accused of resisting arrest and drug possession.
