PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say an eastern Pennsylvania police officer was dragged about 20 feet by a car during a traffic stop.

It happened around early Sunday morning in Philadelphia.

Police say they smelled alcohol in the car and the driver looked intoxicated.

Police say the driver suddenly shifted the vehicle into gear and accelerated, knocking one of the officers off-balance and forcing another to grab onto the window of the car to avoid being run over. The second officer was dragged about 20 feet.

Police spotted the car about 30 minutes later. The driver continued to flee and police say the car crashed into another vehicle.

Police made an arrest. They have not released the man’s name.
