JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Jackson police are warning women traveling alone to be wary, because three criminals are targeting women they see as vulnerable.

Officer Colundula Green says women should be aware of their surroundings, avoid distractions including phones and loud music, keep valuables out of sight, avoid dark, unlit areas, and go out with companions.

She told news outlets Friday that since the beginning of January, six women have been targets of violent crimes between 8 p.m. and midnight. She says the attackers are three men between the ages of 16 and 20, wearing dark clothing, including hooded shirts.

She says the investigation keeps her from saying just where the carjackings, armed robberies and auto thefts occurred.
