ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) - A team from Oakland University in suburban Detroit has won a $1 million grand prize at an international drone competition.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports (https://bit.ly/1SbkWkx ) the Loon Copter, which travels underwater in addition to traditional aerial flight, was chosen as the best in the Drones for Good competition in Dubai.

The drone is in its third prototype. It was developed by the school’s Embedded Systems Research Laboratory.

Oakland University’s campus is in the Oakland County cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills.
