FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says Superior Mayor Jayme Valenzuela has been reassigned from his job as county jail commander while alleged misuse of a town charge card is investigated.

The Sheriff’s Office said Monday that Valenzuela was put on “paid administrative reassignment” because the Arizona Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation.

The Casa Grande Dispatch (https://goo.gl/91QbLS ) has reported than an audit conducted for Superior found that Valenzuela used the town’s card eight times since 2012 to withdraw $2,300 for personal use.

Valenzuela did not immediately respond Monday to requests for comment, and it wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Town Attorney Steve Cooper said records indicate that Valenzuela has repaid charges and related fees on the town’s card, which Cooper said was a debit card.
