SEAFORD, Del. (AP) - Seaford officials say the city is expected to save over $880,000 by installing LED streetlights.

WXDE-FM reports (https://bit.ly/1TOmeS6) officials say the savings are expected to come through reduced energy use and maintenance, with the added benefit of reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

The city plans to replace more than 500 street lights over a three-year period, pending funding approval.

Green Energy funds are helping to get the project started. The installation is scheduled to take place in three phases.

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation is partnering with Seaford in the project.
