LIBERTY, N.Y. (AP) - State police have charged a 65-year-old man with fatally shooting his wife, who was reported missing in upstate New York last week.

Troopers announced Sunday that Jorge Gonzalez of the Sullivan County village of Liberty was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 33-year-old Ramona Gonzalez.

Police say their investigation determined the mother of the couple’s four children had been shot in a wooded area in the neighboring town of Fallsburg, 80 miles northwest of New York City. Investigators believe she was killed last Thursday.

Jorge Gonzalez was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He’s being held Monday in the county jail with no bail set. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

Authorities are holding a news conference late Monday morning to discuss the case.
