AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - Authorities in Aiken say three emaciated dogs have been turned over to an animal welfare center after their owner couldn’t be found.

The Aiken Standard reports (https://bit.ly/1SoWOdc)that a woman called police, saying she had captured a dog that was running around the neighborhood. Officers said the dog was so skinny that most of its bones were visible.

The unidentified woman said she believed more animals were at the home where the dog lived.

The police report says officers found two dogs. One was chained under stairs and the other was secured so tightly to a post that the dog couldn’t move.

Officers reported both animals were also surrounded by their own body waste.

The dogs were taken to the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare.
