DALTON, Ga. (AP) - Dalton police say a woman faces a second degree murder charge in the death of her 17-month-old daughter.

Police tell The Daily Citizen (https://bit.ly/1OAG82s ) officers were called shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday after 21-year-old Catarina Castro Moran found the child dead in bed.

Police say Moran told investigators the child had fallen ill Wednesday. But police determined the child had had a high fever since last week and that Moran had taken the girl to the hospital Monday but left before receiving treatment that doctors told her the child needed.

Moran also faces charges of first degree cruelty to children, identity fraud and making false statement to officers.

Moran was in the Whitfield County jail. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
