PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine had several high-profile killings in 2015, but the state ended the year on par with the past couple of years for homicide deaths.

The killings included a deadly rampage in which five people were shot - two of them fatally - by a man in northern Maine. In Oakland, a man killed three before taking his own life in November. And an Augusta couple was killed on Christmas Day.

Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety says the state finished 2015 with 23 homicides, one more than in 2014. The all-time low was 16 in 1993.

He says Maine finished the year with 19 fire deaths. That’s down from 25 last year but higher than the all-time low of nine fire deaths in 2010.
