AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The warmest December on record in parts of Maine is making ice unsafe across much of the state.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage is urging fishermen, snowmobilers and others going outdoors to exercise caution amid reports of hazardous ice conditions.

The unseasonably warm weather has delayed the formation of solid ice in many parts of the state, including some of Maine’s northernmost destinations.

Superintendent Matthew LaRoche from the Allagash Wilderness Waterway says snowmobilers should stay off the ice altogether until frozen surfaces firm up.
