ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The public is getting extra time to comment on a proposal for a company near Colfax to burn more than 2 million pounds of hazardous waste a year.

The public comment period had been set to expire at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. However, Department of Environmental Quality spokesman Greg Langley told The Town Talk (https://townta.lk/1RcykCR ) that it has now been extended until 4:30 p.m. Feb. 29

DEQ has scheduled a Feb. 23 public hearing on the proposal by Clean Harbors Colfax LLC.

The company is seeking a permit modification so it can more than triple the amount of toxic waste that can be openly burned at its site about five miles northwest of Colfax.
