WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - Hundreds of swimmers are expected to plunge into the Atlantic Ocean off of Rhode Island on Friday to support a center that serves the homeless and needy.

The WARM Center’s 10th annual Penguin Plunge is scheduled to take place at noon at the Andrea Hotel in Westerly. Participants will plunge into cold water at Misquamicut Beach and then be served a hot lunch. Prizes will be given to teams that raised the most money for the event.

Registration is $25 for adults and $20 for those under 18. Proceeds support the work of the nonprofit WARM, which stands for Westerly Area Rest Meals. The organization has been providing services in Westerly since 1987.
