BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A newly unveiled marker in Brookhaven commemorates the history of the city’s Pearlhaven area.

The Daily Leader reports (https://bit.ly/1mmGKN9 ) that the historical marker unveiled Wednesday notes that Pearl Haven was a mill town founded in 1899 by the Pearl River Lumber Company.

It grew in population from 310 in 1901 to more than a 1,000 a couple of years later. However, when the lumber company was sold in 1905, the mill and houses were auctioned off. Pearlhaven was annexed into Brookhaven in 1912.
