HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A central New Jersey mayor has been sworn in to office by a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

Samuel Alito administered the oath of office to Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede during a ceremony Friday that was attended by several hundred people.

Yaede won her first full, four-year term last November.

She has led the Mercer County community since November 2012, when she took over for former Mayor John Bencivengo, who resigned following his conviction on corruption charges. She then easily won election a year later to complete Bencivengo’s term.

Alito was born in Trenton and raised in Hamilton. The Princeton University and Yale Law School graduate has served on the nation’s top court since January 2006.
