WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Officials in Buncombe County say a man was killed and his wife injured in a fire at a mobile home.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1RHieRY) Asheville-Buncombe Arson Task Force fire investigator David Cutshall said 79-year-old Jack Penland died at the scene.

Cutshall said Penland’s wife, Patsy, was transported to Mission Hospital. He said she was talking, but he had no word on her condition after Sunday’s fire.

Jeff Justice, chief of the Reems Creek Fire Department, said it took firefighters about two hours to bring the fire under control. Firefighters had to contend with oxygen tanks in the home that officials believe were exploding due to heat from the fire, but Justice said he didn’t think they caused the fire.

Cutshall said authorities are still trying to determine the cause.
