GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Police in Gastonia say three people attempting to rob a credit union were foiled when a security door locked them out.

Sgt. Heath McMullan told local media outlets that a man and two women attempted to get into the Fort Financial Credit Union Monday. Investigators said the three were wearing surgical masks.

McMullan said the group fled the credit union after the double security doors blocked them from entering. The trio tried to hold open an interior door while also keeping the exterior door open, but McMullan said the doors are programmed to remain locked until one set of doors is closed.

The bank is located next to a daycare where children were outside playing. The director of the daycare says the building was placed on lockdown after police arrived.
