BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Birmingham man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to abuse of a corpse in connection with a woman’s burning body that was found behind an abandoned home.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1PnhInu) a judge sentenced 28-year-old Kenneth Lamar Childers on Thursday to six years in prison. Childers had pleaded guilty on Dec. 7 as his trial was set to begin in Jefferson County.

Childers and 32-year-old Nathaniel Fortune were arrested after the body of 22-year-old Megan Elizabeth Monroe was found burning behind a home in Fairfield in April 2014.

Investigators have said the woman had died of a drug overdose before her body was lit on fire.

Fortune has already pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
