ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Officials in Rockford estimate that the National Dart Association’s regional tournament this past weekend brought at least $58,500 in tourism dollars to northern Illinois.

The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted the tournament for the first time. It started Friday and concluded Sunday with about 200 players. Nick Povalitis is sales manager with the bureau. He tells the Rockford Register Star (https://bit.ly/1K9no31) that figure doesn’t include gas, food and beverages. Competitors came from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Dart association executive director Leslie Murphy says the group was attracted to Rockford because of its central locations. Murphy says it “worked out tremendously.”

Povalitis says the city is in “a good spot” to bid on hosting future dart association events.
