MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Long Island prosecutors say a disbarred attorney from North Carolina has admitted stealing more than $1 million from elderly and disabled clients.

Janice Jessup pleaded guilty to felony grand larceny charges in Nassau County on Monday.

Prosecutors say the Charlotte woman stole more than $1.1 million from a mentally and physically disabled woman who she was representing in a real estate case. They say Jessup also stole about $85,000 from an 85-year-old woman who had hired her for help with obtaining a reverse mortgage.

Authorities say Jessup used the money to buy a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette and also purchased limousines for her husband’s company.

The 68-year-old faces to up to nine years in prison when she returns to court in March. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
