HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A former Newtown police dispatcher has been sentenced to probation for his role in a steroid distribution operation.

Forty-six-year-old Jason Chickos, of Bridgeport, was sentenced Monday in federal court in Hartford to two years of probation.

Chickos was among about a dozen people, including a former Newtown police sergeant, arrested last year in the steroid investigation. Federal prosecutors say the sergeant, Steven Santucci, of Waterbury, received shipments of steroid ingredients from China and manufactured and distributed large quantities of steroids.

Prosecutors say Chickos and another man, 29-year-old Alex Kenyhercz, of Ansonia, purchased anabolic steroids from Santucci and distributed them.

Kenyhercz pleaded guilty Monday is scheduled to be sentenced in April.

Santucci pleaded guilty last month and is to be sentenced in March.
