OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Department of Education is reporting an increase in the number of public school students in the state.

The department announced Monday that the number of students at the start of the current school year was 692,670 - an increase of 4,370 from the year before and up by 33,055 from 2010.

The Oklahoma City district is the largest in the state with 45,577 students, followed by Tulsa Public Schools with 40,867.

The remainder of the top 10 districts by student enrollment are Edmond, Moore, Putnam City, Broken Arrow, Norman, Union, Lawton and Mid-Del.

The department says Oklahoma has 516 public school districts.
