LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a suspect is in custody in connection with a stabbing outside a Las Cruces nightclub.

Las Cruces police say 24-year-old Gary Samuel Peru is being held on suspicion of one felony count each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

Police say the 27-year-old victim remains hospitalized.

Officers found a man in the parking lot of Whiskey Dicks early Sunday suffering from four stab wounds to his torso.

Police say Peru and the victim were inside the nightclub Saturday evening but didn’t know one another.

At some point, nightclub security removed Peru from the building, but he remained in the parking lot.

Police say the victim was apparently leaving the nightclub when he and Peru got into an altercation that led to the stabbing.
