BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp was among eight senators who traveled to the Middle East last week.
The North Dakota Democrat says the goal of the six-day trip was to learn about terrorist groups, Iran’s nuclear program, and tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The senators visited with officials in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, and Austria about regional security.
Heitkamp says how effective the U.S. is in dealing with challenges in the Middle East will determine the country’s security in the years ahead.
