WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - A Williston police detective says one person has died and eight others have been treated for overdosing on heroin over a six-day period beginning Jan. 4.

Detective Amy Nickoloff tells KXMB-TV (https://bit.ly/1ZofJKx ) that the overdoses included eight men and one woman, ranging in age from 25 to 45. The death was a man around 30 years old. The others were treated and released.

Nickoloff says the 9 overdoses are not all connected at this point and happened in different areas of Williston.

The Williston Drug Task Force and BCI are now helping Williston police investigate.

Nickoloff says the rapid increase in heroin use is of high concern. She says the overdoses are of high priority to the department.
