YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - Yankton officials are attending archery tournaments in Europe and Las Vegas this month, as the city gears up to host two more international events.

Yankton will be the site of the World Archery Indoor Championships in February 2018 and the World Archery Field Championships in September 2020.

The city is the headquarters of the National Field Archery Association and home to the Easton Yankton Archery Complex. Last year, it was the site of the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships, which drew nearly 600 archers from 51 countries.

The Yankton delegation includes National Field Archery Association President Bruce Cull, association Marketing Director Brittany Salonen and Yankton Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Stephanie Moser. The trio is traveling this week to Nimes, France, then jetting to Las Vegas later this month, the Daily Press & Dakotan reported (https://bit.ly/1UIWkx4 ).

The trips to the tournaments that are part of the World Cup Indoor Series are a mix of fact-finding and public relations. The delegation will have a booth showcasing Yankton and will build relationships with archers, coaches, judges and officials. The Yankton group also will see how the tournaments are run.

“It’ll provide a time for public relations, but it’s also a time to see how they make decisions,” Moser said.

While both tournaments are part of the same archery series, Salonen expects them to be different.

“Nimes will have more of an international feel,” she said. “At Vegas, it’s more domestic.”

The two upcoming tournaments in Yankton are expected to draw about 1,000 archers, trainers and officials from around the globe.

“We’ll do whatever it takes to make this a first-class event,” Cull said.
