CODY, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities are continuing to investigate after two more malnourished horses from a northwestern Wyoming property died, bringing the total number to seven.

The Cody Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1OYoBlb ) the Park County Sheriff’s Office received a tip Thursday that horses had died on the property in Clark. A deputy found five dead horses on Thursday and two more were discovered Saturday.

The sheriff’s office says they have located caretakers for six other horses that were found alive, but malnourished, on the property.

The animals’ owner told authorities he couldn’t afford feed, and he tried to get rid of the animals by putting an ad in a newspaper and contacting an animal rescue organization.

The sheriff’s office has turned the case over to county prosecutors, who will decide whether criminal charges are appropriate.
