WINFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Twenty-four Putnam County Schools employees have announced their retirement.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports (https://bit.ly/1RIsrO8) the school board approved the retirements on Monday night. Superintendent Chuck Hatfield says the increase in the number of retirements could possibly be a result of the early notification for retirement incentive.

Hatfield says employees who notify the school board of their retirement before Jan. 15 will receive a $500 stipend in addition to one year of free dental and optical insurance.

Hatfield says there has been an increase in the number of employees retiring over the last three years, with this year having the most retirees.
