RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting that occurred on a San Francisco Bay Area freeway that injured three people.

KNTV reports (https://bit.ly/1OfPWvA) Tuesday that the injured included a 2-year-old child.

The shooting happened Monday evening on east Interstate 80 in Richmond.

CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld says a family of five, including three children, were traveling on the freeway when someone shot at their car.

The family pulled over to a nearby gas station and called for help.

Police say the bullet went through a window but did not hit anyone in the car. A 2-year-old in the backseat suffered scratches from broken glass.

Later, a man and a woman came to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

Wilkenfeld says they were victims in the same shooting and possibly the ones originally targeted. The case is under investigation
