GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says charged have been upgraded for a man facing charges in the death of a 2-year-old girl.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement issued Tuesday that 26-year-old Michael Deanthony Latimer Jr. was taking care of the child when the injuries occurred, and originally charged with child abuse with great bodily injury.

Coroner Parks Evans said Destiny Denise Jackson was taken to the hospital on Jan. 4. She died one week later of a non-accidental head injury. Evans ruled the death a homicide, and the charge against Latimer was upgraded to homicide by child abuse.

Latimer, identified by authorities as the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother, is being held at the Greenville County jail without bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
