CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - A Cedar Falls man has been charged with killing a cat after becoming distraught about an upcoming eviction.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (https://bit.ly/1PqaLlF ) reports authorities Monday charged 36-year-old Justin Case Jacoby with first-offense animal torture.

Police found the remains of the cat in a running shower after being called to an apartment Jan. 1. Court records show Jacoby told officers he killed the cat because he didn’t want it taken to an animal shelter. He claimed to have drunk some of the cat’s blood, and officers noticed a dab of blood near Jacoby’s mouth.

Jacoby told police he used a rope to kill the cat.

Iowa Court records show Jacoby is representing himself in court. He remained in the Black Hawk County jail and couldn’t be reached to comment.
