ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a former police officer has been sentenced to two years in prison for buying cocaine from a drug gang in upstate New York.

According to the attorney general’s office, 30-year-old Nicholas Pontore, a former Watervliet officer, pleaded guilty to drug possession in Rensselaer County Court.

Investigators say he bought cocaine from the Young Gunnerz almost daily, sometimes while on-duty and in his marked police vehicle.

The case against the Young Gunnerz, following a year-long investigation, has resulted in criminal charges against 21 people with 16 having pleaded guilty to charges.

Authorities say they seized more than 1,000 grams of cocaine, 100 bags of heroin, an ounce of raw heroin and three guns from the Troy-based gang that sold drugs in the greater Albany area.
