RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes is criticizing a federal court’s decision to redraw Virginia’s congressional map.

The Republican representing the 4th Congressional District tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch (bit.ly/1Q2sEvz) he’s confident the Supreme Court will rule that the “overreach of these two judges is not appropriate.” He says believes the high court will side with a third judge who said the new map is “neither required, not permitted.”

The decision by the three-judge panel changed the boundaries of five districts. It significantly altered the racial makeup of Forbes’ district and the 3rd District, represented by Democrat Bobby Scott.

The new map adds Richmond and Petersburg to Forbes’ district, which could help Democrats to pick up the seat.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from Republicans in the congressional delegation.
