BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Glendive police officer has been charged with felony and misdemeanor charges of possessing drugs and driving under the influence.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1OozZRw ) that 48-year-old Michael Briggs was released on his own recognizance Monday after his initial appearance in Yellowstone County District Court.

Briggs has been scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 19.

Briggs was arrested Friday when Billings police officers received reports of an intoxicated driver. Briggs had been in Billings for National Guard training. He refused to submit to a field sobriety test and was taken to jail. A search at the Yellowstone County jail found that Briggs had a mint tin containing hydrocodone, a Schedule II dangerous drug.

Briggs said Monday that he has a prescription for the painkiller.
