WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A 3-year-old girl and a 3-month-old girl died in a fire in a Wilmington row house.

Fire Chief Anthony Goode told reporters that the blaze broke out about 4 p.m. Tuesday. He said a woman went into the burning house trying to get her children, and escaped with a 2-year-old child.

Fire officials tell WDEL-FM that the woman was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, and the child was treated and released.

The fire gutted the home. The cause is under investigation.
