GEDDES, N.Y. (AP) - County music star Keith Urban will be the New York State Fair’s opening act this summer at the new concert venue that has replaced the fair’s just-demolished grandstand.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced Monday that Urban will perform at the Lakeview Amphitheater on Aug. 25, the opening day of the 2016 State Fair in the Syracuse suburb of Geddes (GEH’-dehs).

The nearby county-owned amphitheater on the shores of Onondaga Lake opened last summer with a performance by Miranda Lambert during the 2015 State Fair.

Urban played at the old State Fair grandstand in 2012. The 40-year-old venue was demolished by controlled explosions last Saturday to make way for a new recreational vehicle park, part of the state’s $50 million renovation underway at the fairgrounds.
