JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Reaction from some Mississippi lawmakers to the inauguration speech of Republican Gov. Phil Bryant:

Fifth-term Rep. Gregory Holloway, D-Hazlehurst, expressed misgivings about Bryant’s forceful call for school choice: “We just want to make sure every child in the state of Mississippi has an equal opportunity for an education,” Holloway said. “We’re really a little bit concerned about that part of it.”

First-term Rep. Shane Aguirre, R-Tupelo, said Bryant offered a comprehensive message: “It was a good vision for the future of our state.”

First-term Rep. Kathy Sykes, D-Jackson, said part of Bryant’s message should resonate with people in her district: “I liked the fact that he stressed the importance of job creation…. We need more jobs and we need good-paying jobs.”

Second-term Rep. Nick Bain, D-Corinth, said he wanted to hear Bryant talk more about transportation: “I look forward to working with him on our side to see what we can do.”
