CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - A new mayor in eastern Pennsylvania says a $10,000 reward will be given out for information that leads to an arrest and conviction after a father of 10 was killed.

David Alston was found in his car Friday night in Chester with a gunshot to his head.

Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland says he met the 42-year-old man more than three decades ago.

Kirkland offered $5,000 from the city for information. A matching contribution will also be made from the Delaware County District Attorney’s office. Officials say that partnership is a first.

Chester police say they don’t want to release information on whether weapons were recovered. They say there are “strong leads” in the investigation.

Alston previously pleaded guilty to drug offenses. Those charges weren’t mentioned or referenced as motive.
